I made hot cross buns today from the Paul Hollywood recipe in this months Good Food Magazine. I checked them earlier than the recommended time and good job I did as they were almost burned. I don't actually like sultanas but decided to try one of the buns still warm from the oven and with butter. Oh my gosh they are delicious.
Here's a picture of some of them.

Today I gave my eighth blood donation. After not being able to give for a while due to illness it's great to be back giving again. Here's a picture of my arm after being brave!

My best friend Amy works for the same company as me. We lent some gym kit to our local Sainsbury's to help the staff raise money for sport relief. When I popped in to shop I found Amy on the bike helping them out.
Here she is.

Yet another garden related picture. The weather has been beautiful this week and I have been working lates so have spent at least some time in the garden every day this week. Lush.
There are two plants in our garden that are clearly very attractive to ladybirds as there are literally hundreds of them on the plants. Here's a close up of some of the ladybirds.

Upcycling to the max. Using an old recycling box as a plant pot and old drinks bottles as cloches.

First harvest of 2012
This is the first item I have harvested from my garden this year. I am so pleased with it. Was going to leave it a bit longer to grow bigger however realised I had no veg to go with dinner so harvested this piece of broccoli.
Spring has sprung
It is a gorgeous sunny day today and yet it was very cold overnight.
I reckon spring has sprung. Daffodils have been out for weeks, trees are in blossom and there are buds appearing here, there and everywhere. I love it!
I have been full of cold lately but found the energy to plant a few of my seed potatoes and some strawberry seeds. Days like today I love the fact I work shifts as I don't start work until 6pm tonight so have been out enjoying the garden.
Feeling the sun on my skin was lush.
I have to say I am turning into a bit of an impatient gardener. Keep getting disappointed when seeds haven't yet sprung up.
So far my Brussels sprouts have come up, tiny leeks are coming up and some of the flower seeds I planted are coming through. For everything else I guess I just need to be patient.
I read quite a few gardening/allotment blogs now and follow quite a few on twitter. This has lead to me having much more awareness of things I need to consider when planting/growing and also led to me doing a lot of my own research. I don't know loads but I definitely feel I have a lot more of a clue now.
I am so excited for all the lovely fruits and vegetables that I will hopefully get this year.
I have also decided to grow several different varieties of flowers this year to try and encourage insects.
I am also growing sweet peas because my Grandmother always used to grow them and they are beautiful.

Wittenham Clumps is a nature reserve near where I live that has 2 hills, woodland and you can also walk down to the river and across fields to another village. I took my dog for a walk there today but it was rather foggy. So foggy you couldn't see the hill. The photo is taken from the bottom of the hill. Usually it is not foggy and you can see for miles from the top of the hill.
